Styling Children’s Bedrooms

◂ Back to Posts

Out of all the rooms in your home, children’s bedrooms can be the most fun to style. From bright colors and whimsical patterns to a chalkboard paint wall, there is a certain creative freedom in the design of children’s rooms. Follow these styling tips to create a fun and functional space for your children.

Keep it Kid-Sized. Keeping shelves, dressers, and other pieces of furniture at an appropriate height for children ensures they will use them (and hopefully keep them organized).

Changeable Elements. Children have fun mixing up their space. Incorporating elements like chalkboard paint, wall decals, and open shelving allows them to enjoy making the space their own.

Accent Colors. For a bedroom style that can mature with your child, use basic neutrals for wall colors and furniture and add a fun element with colorful bedding, wall art, or a patterned rug that can be easily swapped out.

Strategic Lighting. While any room needs ample light, it’s especially important to design a child’s room with multiple sources of light. Ceiling lighting provides a bright atmosphere for playing and creating, and lamps and reading lights are perfect for homework time.

Make It Fun. Kids love to dream and create, so consider including your child in the process of styling their bedroom. Let them choose the theme, the color palette, or the wall decor. They will be excited about what you accomplish together!
