William Means Guide to Preparing for Holiday Guests

◂ Back to Posts

The holiday season can be busy and stressful, but many consider it the best time of the year as friends and family make an effort to visit one another and celebrate together. If you will be hosting guests at some point during this holiday season, follow these tips to make your guests feel at home.

Make it Comfortable. Everyone has different sleeping preferences: some like their bedrooms ice cold, some like them warm and cozy. If your guests need a change of temperature in the middle of the night, have additional options on hand. Keeping extra blankets, a small heater and fan, and white noise machine in your guest room will ensure your guests have everything they need to sleep comfortably.

Remove Clutter. Clutter not only makes a room look busy, but it takes up space visually and can make a room feel crowded. Remove clutter from your foyer/entryway, guest room closet, and guest bathroom to ensure that your guests feel they have room to settle in.

Add Thoughtful Touches. Go the extra step to ensure your guests feel right at home for the holidays. Plug in night lights in hallways and bathrooms, and place a notecard by the bed with your wi-fi password. You may even want to provide your guests with a spare house key if they are going to be staying for more than a couple of days.

Make Supplies Easy to Find. In the chaos of preparing for holiday travels, your guests may forget important day-to-day items. Before your guests arrive, set out a little basket in the bathroom filled with extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair spray, a razor, and lotion. Make sure to stock the guest shower with shampoo, conditioner and soap as well.

Create a Breakfast/Coffee Station. In the event that your guests rise before you, set up a breakfast and coffee/tea station so that they can help themselves in the morning. Coffee cake, instant oatmeal, cereal, and bananas are all easy options to offer your guests before the big family brunch or breakfast outing.

Add a Little Something Fun. Are your guests new to Charleston? Leave a few local magazines or history books on their nightstand. Do they consider themselves “foodies?” Leave a small gift basket filled with your favorite local treats for them to try. These personal touches will wow your guests and set your holidays off to a great start.

Whether you will be traveling or hosting, the William Means team wishes you a wonderful holiday season filled with food, fun, and family and friends.
