I’On on the National Stage

◂ Back to Posts

It isn’t often that the neighborhood where your office headquarters is located is featured in a Super Bowl commercial. This year, the Downy brand enlisted actor and Charleston resident Danny McBride to promote their Downy Unstopables product. The commercial was filmed in I’On, one of Mount Pleasant’s most popular neighborhoods and where William Means Real Estate calls home.

However, this is not the first time that I’On has been on the national stage. In the early years of the community, Bob Vila chose the neighborhood to build a property for his show “Home Again.” The multi-episode series focused on the build of an I’On home titled the “Lifespan House.” It was designed by architect Andrés Duany, who also helped with initially designing the neighborhood. The idea was to have the ability to grow and expand spaces overtime, just like a family might change and grow. The home expansion would be comfortable for the family’s children as they became adults, and a separated space could be conducive for a caregiver to the owner later in life.

In 2001, I’On was also featured in the renowned National Geographic publication in an article called “Urban Sprawl.” The article was lauded for being a warning and road map for developers to combat urban sprawl – I’On was used as an example of thoughtful design for the future.

In 2009, I’On was also home to the Coastal Living Idea Cottage. The cottage set on the Jefferson Canal was a beautiful home built by Structures Building Company. The Caribbean themed property featured design elements to bring the outside in and was LEED certified with many green features. The home is now owned by William Means Agent Jane Milner.

Over the last 25 years, I’On has been highlighted and featured in many more wonderful articles and publications. It is a true vision of a mixed-use neighborhood with character and Southern charm. If you live nearby or are in town for a visit, stop by the William Means office to learn more about this incredible community.
