Charleston Named As One Of The Healthiest Places To Live

◂ Back to Posts

Does one of your 2018 New Year’s resolutions involve some type of health initiative, like exercising more often or committing to a healthier lifestyle? If so, you are in the right place. Charleston just made Trulia’s list as one of the “healthiest places in the United States.” With an abundance of sunny days and average yearly temperatures in the mid-seventies, there is a natural pull to spend time outside in the Lowcountry. Start working towards your goals today with a few of these great local options.

West Ashley Greenway – A 8.25 mile hiking and bike trail located in West Ashley, this greenway stretches from the South Windermere shopping center on Folly Road to Johns Island along Highway 17.

Cooper River Bridge Run – One Charleston’s most famous races, The Cooper River Bridge Run is celebrating it’s 41st race in 2018. Be one of 40,000 participants to “Get Over It” – the Ravenel Bridge, that is. The 10k race begins in Mount Pleasant and ends in downtown.

Hampton Park – This large downtown park boasts the most extensive floral displays in the city. The physical fitness trail is a popular spot for avid runners and walkers, but there is plenty of space on the lawn for a yoga session or a game of frisbee.

Charleston Bikeshare – Looking to hop on a bike more, but don’t want the hassle of transporting it to a desirable location? Holy Spokes, Charleston’s bikeshare program, allows users to rent a bicycle at several locations around the city using a smartphone app. Users simply return the bicycle when they are finished riding.

Charleston Moves – This nonprofit advocates for enhanced conditions for walking and riding a bike in Charleston County. With opportunities to donate, volunteer, and participate in fun local events, Charleston Moves is a great organization for those looking not only to reach their fitness goals, but also make a positive impact in the community.

James Island County Park – Enjoy the natural beauty of James Island County Park year-round. Activities for all ages include the campground, Splash Zone Waterpark, paved walking/running trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, and South Carolina’s highest outdoor climbing facility.

Whether you are looking to join a community sports league, spend time on a running trail, or just enjoy an afternoon at the park with your family, Charleston is the perfect place to uphold your health-conscious New Year’s Resolutions.
