Which Beach Community Is Right For You?

◂ Back to Posts

As the weather warms up, we’re beginning to heed the call of Charleston’s shorelines to beat the hustle and bustle of city life. In honor of the First Day of Summer, we’re rounding up our favorite beach spots to spend your relaxation time.

The town of Edisto Beach is situated in Colleton County and is considered one of the few remaining, gently developed beaches on the eastern coastline of the state. From beachfront vacation rentals to fishing and boating, this family-oriented community has something for everyone.

Known for its top-rated recreation facilities and unspoiled beaches, Kiawah Island boasts five championship golf courses, abundant recreation programs, eco-adventures, water sports and miles of trails. Kiawah Island has a selection of stunning beachfront homes, grand estates, villas and condominiums within the private, gated community.

Besides the great surf and sand, Folly Beach is known for its restaurant and bar scene at Center Street as well as the County Park and Fishing Pier. Homes here are nestled here on the “Edge of America” and the location offers a quick drive to downtown Charleston just 11 miles away.

Escape to Sullivan’s Island, the serene barrier island north of the Charleston harbor. This town has just 1,780 residents with very few short-term rentals and no hotels, motels or bed and breakfast lodging. Many houses date from the 1800s, giving it a classic turn-of-the-century feel.

As you drive, bike or run across the Isle of Palms Connector, you’re immediately captivated by the smell of the salt marsh and the views of the Atlantic Ocean. Isle of Palms has grand oceanfront homes mixed with classic beach bungalows.
