Georgia Bell comes from a business-minded family. One of her grandfathers was a founder and president of the S.C. Farm Bureau for many years. One was inducted into the S.C. Business Hall of Fame. Her father, brothers and brother-in-law have international agribusinesses based in California.

“I grew up with the land,” Bell says. “And I love business. Integrity is a part of our family and our belief in doing an excellent job. We treat people like you’d want to be treated yourself.”

Those values have followed Bell into her work as a real estate agent with William Means Real Estate, one of the oldest real estate companies in Charleston.

Bell has always been drawn to real estate and to South Carolina, visiting family here a couple times a year. Bell graduated from the University of Southern California and headed to Washington, D.C. South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond was a family friend, so she went to work in his office, managing college interns. Even then she felt a pull toward real estate, working to earn her real estate license in D.C.

But life took over, and Bell decided to focus on raising her three daughters. Eventually, she and her family relocated to Sumter. When her daughters headed to the College of Charleston, Bell followed and she’s been calling Charleston home for 14 years, residing in the historic district of downtown Charleston.

Here she was able to rekindle her love of real estate in one of the best cities for a woman who loves the land and connecting people to lovely places.
“If you love historic buildings and homes and beautiful land, it doesn’t get much better than Charleston,” says Bell, who has three married daughters and five wonderful grandchildren.

Her real estate career has flourished. In 2015, Bell sold more than $10 million and has been honored as a Realtor of Distinction by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors for many years.

Real estate is Bell’s passion but so is community. She has immersed herself in a number of Charleston organizations and activities. She has served on the Vestry of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where she also plays piano, and on the Parents Council of the College of Charleston. She is on the board of Charleston Stage and is an active member of the Charleston Chamber Music Society, The English Speaking Union, Gibbes Museum of Art, the Historic Charleston Foundation, the Preservation Society and the choir at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.

Bell believes it’s important to be involved the community and do your part to make it a better place. Plus, she knows her clients aren’t just buying a house, but that they are buying Charleston and she wants to be able to share with them everything about the city and its charms.

Bell’s dedication to professionalism and excellence has resulted in truly meaningful relationships.

“When I meet someone new through a listing, we always end up becoming good friends,” she says. “I really treasure that. Some of my best friends started out as clients. It’s important to me to have the kind of transaction that ends up like that.”
