A Charleston Staycation

◂ Back to Posts

It’s Spring Break season and we’re planning a staycation in Charleston. Named the #1 City in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure again in 2018 and the South’s Best City by Southern Living for the past three years, we see no need to go jet-setting as our own wonderful city offers a dynamic culinary scene and a multitude of fun springtime activities. Here’s a few things on our agenda for a blissful Charleston staycation.

Relax on the Porch. On nearly every Charleston home you will find a welcoming piazza, and they are the perfect place to sip on coffee in the mornings or a glass of wine at night. Enjoy Charleston’s warm spring temperatures and the abundance of flowers that come into bloom after the cooler winter months.

Volvo Car Open. Tennis enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Volvo Car Open, the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America. This year from March 30th – April 7th, the 47th event will be held on Daniel Island and welcomes more than 100 world-class athletes.

Wine and Dine. Southern Living also ranked Charleston #1 on their list of the South’s Best Food Cities. From oysters at 167 Raw to fine dining at Peninsula Grill, the options are endless with Charleston’s impressive variety of dining establishments.

Cooper River Bridge Run. Drawing over 40,000 visitors each year, this 10K race course begins in Mount Pleasant on Coleman Boulevard, crosses the Ravenel Bridge and finishes in downtown Charleston. If you’re not feeling competitive, you can enjoy the views from the top of the bridge via the Wonders’ Way pedestrian path any time you like.

Explore the Historic District. From Harleston Village to the French Quarter to South of Broad, downtown Charleston’s historic neighborhoods are known for their rich history and stunning historic homes. While you explore these neighborhoods, keep your eyes open for plaques that provide more information about the history of these special homes.

Read a Book at Waterfront Park. Home to the iconic pineapple fountain, Waterfront Park in the French Quarter is a gem in the heart of downtown. Enjoy stunning views of the Ravenel Bridge and Charleston Harbor from benches under the canopy of live oaks or the park’s lush lawn.

A Day at the Beach. Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach offer miles of pristine sand and sparkling ocean views. Grab a bite to eat from favorite local restaurants and explore charming shops and galleries near the beachfront.

Whether you are visiting for the first time or have lived in Charleston for many years, we hope you enjoy your time in this wonderful city. You can find more events and happenings at CharlestonCVB.com and learn more about Charleston neighborhoods here.
