5 Ways to Prepare Your Home For The Holidays

◂ Back to Posts

The holiday season is finally here! It’s our favorite time of year to spruce up our Charleston homes as family and friends come together to celebrate. Following these five tips will ensure your home is perfectly prepared for holiday gatherings.

Clean and declutter. The first step to preparing your home for the holiday season is to declutter and deep clean your home. Put away items that aren’t being used during the winter months to make your home feel more open and inviting. Clearing out your home will give you peace of mind and will also create a blank canvas for festive decorations.

Add a festive touch. Bringing the holiday spirit into your home can be simple. Place seasonal decorations on your windowsills or shelves, hang stockings by the chimney (with care), add garland and twinkle lights to the mantle, put up a Christmas tree decorated with treasured ornaments and add a few lights to your front porch. Lastly, disperse a few holiday candles around your home to make it feel extra cozy.

Prep your kitchen. Clear your kitchen countertops to make room for kitchen appliances that will be used this season. Clean out the refrigerator and pantry and stock up on essential items. Replace your current dishes with special china that is saved for special occasions, and make sure your appliances are in good working order for all of the cooking and baking that is to come.

Create gathering areas. When your guests arrive, you will want to have gathering areas ready for everyone to have a comfortable space to mingle. Light the fire in the living room and have cozy blankets readily available, add a firepit to your backyard surrounded by chairs and add a space heater to your porch for your guests to feel warm and cozy.

Add a holiday scent. Nothing makes a home feel more like the holidays than the right fragrance. Light scented candles or make your own homemade scents by simmering water, cinnamon sticks and apples on the stove. There are a variety of scents you can create, such as fresh orange slices and cloves, or traditional pine.

Spending time preparing your home for the holiday season will make it feel inviting for you and your guests. If you need tips on how to get your home holiday ready, contact one of our knowledgeable agents. Happy holidays to all!
