5 Tips to Keep Your Home Clean During Showings

◂ Back to Posts

During this uncertain time, we have been pleased to see real estate activity continuing in the local Charleston market with new listings, homes going under contract and sales closing. At William Means, the health and safety of our employees, clients and community is always the top priority.

Whenever possible, consider virtual showings or virtual open houses first. By using online communication services or event tools such as Facebook, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams, agents can easily set up a virtual showing of your home and ask questions in real time on these platforms. If your home is currently on the market and if it’s not possible to do a virtual home showing, follow these tips to keep your home safe and clean.

Open all interior doors prior to showings. Before each home showing, do a walk-through and open all interior doors to allow visitors to tour your home without touching door knobs or surfaces. This includes closet and bathroom doors, sliding doors to outdoor porches or balconies, and doors to the garage or backyard.

Place hand sanitizer at home entrances. At your front and back doors, kitchen door, or garage entry, keep a bottle of hand sanitizer or sanitary wipes for agents and clients to use when they arrive and again when leaving your home.

Keep disposable footies on hand at your entryway. Place disposable footies at entryways to allow visitors to tour your home without having to remove footwear.

Post signs encouraging visitors to take a few wipes. Have your agent post a sign at your entryway encouraging visitors to take a few wipes as they enter, which they can use if they need to open up cabinets or touch any surfaces and dispose of on their way out.

Have hand-washing amenities readily available. Keep hand soap, disposable paper towels and trash bins easily accessible near sinks in the kitchen and bathrooms.

In addition to these tips, we recommend practicing social distancing, frequent hand-washing and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces in line with CDC guidelines to keep your home clean. Our knowledgeable agents are are accessible by phone and email, and are available to arrange video chats and tours, and are here answer any questions you have about buying or selling a Charleston home and being as safe as possible during this time.
