5 Tips for Styling Your Fireplace

◂ Back to Posts

December is here and it’s the best time of year to get cozy at home. Although we enjoy a moderate climate here in Charleston, many homes feature beautiful fireplaces that make the winter months much more enjoyable. From the living room to the den to the bedroom, follow these tips for styling your fireplace this winter.

Add an Anchor Piece. To make your fireplace the focal point of the room, add an “anchor” piece on the mantel to ground the space. This could be a large statement mirror, a painting or print from your favorite artist, or a special family heirloom.

Accent with Seasonal Greenery. Especially for the holiday season, adding fresh (or faux) greenery adds life and movement to your fireplace mantel. From Christmas-y wreaths and garlands to vases filled with your favorite flowers, organic matter will lift the whole mood of your space.

Experiment With Layering. Create visual interest by layering the objects on your fireplace mantel and hearth. Select a variety of heights, textiles, and colors for a fun and appealing aesthetic.

Display Sentimental Pieces. Everyone has photos, ornaments, pieces of artwork and objects that have important sentimental meaning to them. Your fireplace mantel is the perfect place to display some of these items to evoke warm and happy feelings during the cold winter months.

Fill The Space. Even if your fireplace isn’t functional, it can still feel just as cozy with the right styling. Fill the firebox opening with logs, books, an arrangement of candles or even a large planter for a unique and interesting look.

We hope you enjoy the holiday season and find every excuse to spend more time by the fireside!
