The Preserve At Fenwick Plantation
is a stunning upscale neighborhood located on the original site of one of the oldest existing plantations in South Carolina. At The Preserve, you will enjoy a new home in a neighborhood nestled between the 1730 Fenwick Plantation manor house and Penny Creek, with its expansive marsh views beyond.

We recently relocated to Charleston for our careers in the medical field. With our demanding work schedules, one of the real draws to living in The Preserve is that we get to come home to a beautiful, quiet and relaxing little oasis. Originally, we were pretty hard set on living downtown for the culture and close proximity to work, but by sheer luck we stumbled upon The Preserve and knew right away we had found our new home. We have space for our dog to run around, a short commute into downtown, and best of all...some of the best neighbors anyone could ask for. We were instantly welcomed into the community. What other place can say they have a neighborhood wine-and-dolphin-watching night! Overall, we love living in the Charleston area. The food couldn’t be better, the people are friendly, and we truly have a place to call home.
We had been looking for a new home location that would provide options for outdoor activities, easy access to great dining and culture, and provide us a home base for our eventual retirement. When we found The Preserve, we both agreed it checked all the boxes. It allows us to literally walk out the door and launch our paddle boards and kayaks without ever loading up the car. We also launch our boat at the nearby boat ramp and tie it up for the weekend at the community dock, enabling us to head out any time for a cruise. Where else can you live in such a serene maritime setting and still be able to drive to downtown Charleston in less than 15 minutes? We have fantastic dining options right up the road in addition to beautiful dog walks at Beach Walker Park and shopping in Fresh Fields Village on Kiawah Island.
The Preserve is like entering your own peaceful world. Natural beauty and quiet serenity are unexpected this close to downtown Charleston. The subdivision is small enough for one to get to know their neighbors while still enjoying the privacy of an exclusive neighborhood. If natural beauty and marsh vistas are on your must-have list, this is the place for you.
We have been happily married for 22 years and have lived in The Preserve nearly half of that time. The Preserve is a perfect location - it’s close to town and schools for my wife and our two boys, and convenient to Kiawah Island where my business is located. We greatly enjoy watching the wildlife in the marsh and the woods. The natural setting between a historic plantation on one side and the marshes of Penny Creek on the other create a feeling unlike any other neighborhood in the area.
A Piece of Southern History
With its expansive marsh views, imagine living a relaxing lifestyle in Charleston's most unique neighborhood, where you can embrace both history and nature. If the walls could talk, they would tell the story of Fenwick Hall, one of the oldest plantations in South Carolina.
Built in 1730, this 4,500-acre plantation was once the location where rice and cotton were grown. Fenwick Hall was occupied by Lord Cornwallis and the British Army during the Revolutionary War, and again by the Union Army during the Civil War. The plantation also served as the site of one of America's first stud farms for racehorses imported from England.
Serene Charleston Location
The Preserve offers a peaceful and scenic location that allows you to be close with nature on Johns Island yet minutes from everything Charleston has to offer including historic downtown, restaurants, beaches and the best hospitals in South Carolina.
Within the community, two deep water docks on Penny Creek are available for crabbing, fishing, kayaking, and boating. A network of leisure trails, tranquil ponds, as well as a gazebo and firepit allow homeowners to enjoy the scenery while taking in all that The Preserve has to offer.
