◂ Back to Posts

Tucked away on James Island, the Riverland Terrace neighborhood comprises about 800 homes, surrounded by abundant green space and offering beautiful water views. Minutes from downtown Charleston and Folly Beach and with family-friendly community amenities, it’s easy to see why Riverland Terrace is a popular choice for Lowcountry living.

Central Location. Bound by the Stono River, Wappoo Creek and Maybank Highway, Riverland Terrace is located on the Northern side of James Island. Steps from Terrace Plaza and just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Charleston and Folly Beach, it offers the ideal location close to everything that makes Charleston so special.

Charming Southern Homes. Picturesque 1940’s-1960’s bungalows canopied by mature trees exude their own kind of Southern charm, and stunning waterfront homes are an idyllic retreat. A great number of homes in Riverland Terrace have been beautifully updated, with spacious yards and inviting porches. Many are set back from the street offering even more privacy in this quiet residential neighborhood.

Neighborhood Green Spaces. Leading into the neighborhood, Wappoo Drive is also known as the “Avenue of Oaks,” boasting more than 70 live oak trees believed to be at least 100 years old. At the Southern edge of Riverland Terrace, Medway Park is home to an expansive community garden and farmer’s market, a baseball field and basketball courts. Next to the neighborhood boat landing, Plymouth Park features a playground and benches overlooking the water.

Waterfront Living. The Riverland Terrace public boat landing on Wappoo Creek provides convenient access to the Stono River. Spacious waterfront homes offer unparalleled views of the waterways and are perfect for avid boaters and fishermen.

Historic Significance. Historic Fort Pemberton is located on the Stone River waterfront in Riverland Terrace. Constructed in 1862, it is considered a notable example of Confederate military engineering and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A picturesque walking trail provides the opportunity to get up close to this unique piece of history.
