Across the Ravenel Bridge from downtown Charleston lies the town of Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant offers a refreshing change of pace from the bustling city of Charleston with an easygoing lifestyle, waterfront parks and restaurants all while being just minutes away from beautiful beaches. Choosing a neighborhood can be a difficult decision, whether you are looking to buy or rent. Follow our guide to the most popular Mount Pleasant neighborhoods and the benefits of living in each.

I’On. This popular Mount Pleasant neighborhood was inspired by traditional communities of the Lowcountry and is known for its Southern homes with stunning architecture. Each home is custom built by one of the area’s most innovative builders. I’On homes mimic traditional Charleston single houses and are purposely situated close to each other to invite neighbors to connect on their porches. Enjoy neighborhood amenities such as a commercial center, athletic facilities and a sports club. Dine at one of the wonderful restaurants located in I’On Square, the perfect place to gather with neighbors for lunch or dinner. We know you’ll love this perfect location, just minutes from Shem Creek, Sullivan’s Island and downtown Charleston.

Old Village. The Old Village District in Mount Pleasant is set apart from any other neighborhood in the Charleston area. Its quaint streets are filled with captivating charm, historic homes, grand live oak trees, spectacular views and mom ‘n’ pop shops. This historic neighborhood is filled with stunning Southern and coastal-style architecture that consist of wide front porches, large windows and spacious yards lined perfectly with grand oak trees. Along your journey throughout the Old Village, you’ll stumble upon a couple slices of heaven such as Pitt Street Bridge and Alhambra Hall that offer dreamy, picturesque views. Take in the best views of the Charleston Harbor and surrounding marshland while watching the sunset.

Belle Hall. Comprised of seven different subsections, Belle Hall is one of the most inviting neighborhoods East of the Cooper River. This popular neighborhood offers a variety of amenities, including two miles of walking trails, a crabbing dock, a community park, ponds, community centers and swimming pools. Residents will find no shortage of shopping, dining, recreational activities or sight-seeing opportunities. Located just off of I-526, homeowners are just minutes away from Belle Hall Shopping Center, downtown Charleston and the beaches.

Shemwood. Located in the heart of Mount Pleasant, Shemwood is conveniently located off of Coleman Boulevard within walking or biking distance to Shem Creek, Sullivan’s Island and popular shops and restaurants. Shemwood was one of Mount Pleasant’s first neighborhoods and includes a mix of brick ranches built in the 60s and 80s, newer coastal-style homes, as well as waterfront properties. You’ll love living in this central location with easy access to all of the local favorite destinations.

Dunes West. Located off Highway 41 in north Mount Pleasant, you’ll find a popular neighborhood called Dunes West. This gated community offers manicured lawns, gorgeous mid-size homes and wonderful amenities. Enjoy having access to two swimming pools, quaint walking trails, tennis courts, a boat landing and a golf course. Neighborhood residents enjoy the sense of community this area offers and living in close proximity to grocery stores, restaurants and shops.
