What is the best way to choose an agent when buying a home?

◂ Back to Posts

Most people looking to purchase a home spend a great deal of time looking online and through the paper and advertisements for homes in certain areas that they find attractive in asking price and as a desirable location before contacting an agent.  With these thoughts in mind they then turn their efforts to finding a Realtor who can best help them find the right property to call home or an investment.  It is important to find an agent who is knowledgeable and familiar with the area you have in mind.  Look online at companies and agents who specialize in selling homes in the areas you are interested in.  Read their biographies.  These write-ups will give you insight into particular characteristics that you may have in common and deem important.  For example, one may have formerly been a lawyer, another may be interested in historic preservation, and another may be especially familiar with new-construction homes.  Find out if they have worked in the area that you are interested in.  Give the agent a call and talk with them about their experience, their knowledge, and how they can best help you in your search and purchase of a property.
