Stage Your Home Like A Pro

◂ Back to Posts

Staging your home is paramount in attracting the right buyers during a hot Spring market. If you’re getting ready to put your home on the market, you will likely discuss with your real estate agent the best ways to showcase your property. Follow these tips and learn how to stage your home like a pro!

Clear up the clutter. While your encyclopedia collection and multitude of family photos may have a special place in your home, it is best to to keep personal items to a minimum. We realize that no one realistically has a bathroom that is completely clear of items, but a clean slate allows buyers to envision themselves living in your home without knowing about your favorite toothpaste brand.

Rub-a-dub-dub. Speaking of which, there is nothing quite like photographing a sparkling kitchen or bathroom. Before putting your property on the market, be sure to deep clean your entire home and keep up with it as your property is shown to buyers. If you don’t have extra time on your hands, schedule a professional to clean regularly as you never know when you might receive a showing request.

Be our guest. If you have an inviting dining room and beautiful fine china that you never have a chance to use, why not stage the space for a dinner party? Buyers love to see rooms with a purpose and this can look especially elegant if you focus on the perfect finishing touches, like an arrangement of fresh flowers as your centerpiece.

Can you smell that smell? Not everyone has a Fluffy or Fido in their life so potential buyers may not think kindly about smelling your furry family members. If pet odor is an issue in your home, take the time to hide air fresheners throughout different rooms or light a scented candle during showings.

Cleaning out my closet. We may not photograph your closet space for MLS, but be aware that buyers are definitely going to peek in your closet. Try to keep it as tidy as possible. Don’t cram too many items into your walk-in especially if you have a great custom closet system that you want to showcase.

Blinded by the light.  Buyers want to see bright living spaces! Since you may not know what the weather will be like when agents are showing your home, be sure to open curtains and blinds and leave lights on in every room to allow for optimum illumination.

The great outdoors. Don’t underestimate the staging of a yard space with a grill and outdoor furniture. Home buyers may like your home but they will certainly fall in love with the idea of a well-maintained outdoor space for the whole family.
