Selling Your Home During the Holidays

◂ Back to Posts

Selling your home during the holidays can have many pros and cons but if you take into consideration these helpful tips, you may end up celebrating more than the season!

We all love the holly jolly festivities of the holiday season but try not to overdue it on the decorations. Create a warm and inviting atmosphere for clients and agents to tour your home, while also allowing them to picture your property without a plethora of twinkling lights and an oversized, inflatable Santa. Remember there is a fine line between tasteful and tacky.

Pricing is always a factor at any time of the year and you should take careful consideration of the benefits of a price reduction with your experienced real estate agent. They can guide you through this process and make recommendations as other homes close and the market shifts.

The seasons are changing which means more yard upkeep for our homeowners. Thankfully we don’t have to deal with the hassle of a winter wonderland in the Charleston area but that doesn’t mean curb appeal goes entirely out the window. Keeping the yard manicured and free of leaves will be a welcome sight to potential buyers.

If you’re looking to showcase your home’s location, outdoor space or fantastic open floor plan, a drone video may be just the ticket. Video enhancements are more popular than ever in the real estate market and can make a big impact in promoting your home to local and out of town buyers.

Showings can certainly slow down during the holiday period but don’t panic! Many home buyers take their house hunting online during this time. Even if there aren’t many calls to see your home in person, traffic will certainly be increasing on the web which could lead to a future sale.

If you are, however, anticipating an increase in showings during this time, communicate with your real estate agent about which dates your home will be unavailable to show. Try to keep these dates to a minimum though as you do not want to miss out on a great opportunity. It’s even better if you will be out of town as your home will be tidy and ready to show at a moment’s notice.

And most importantly…relax! The holidays are about friends and family coming together and rejoicing a wonderful 2016. Having an experienced real estate agent on your side will give you peace of mind and allow you to enjoy the holidays. Even if your home does not go under contract during this time, keep calm because there is always the New Year!
