Holiday Events in the Lowcountry

It’s finally the holiday season in Charleston, which means there are an abundance of festive events to enjoy. We’ve rounded up our favorite holiday events to attend this holiday season. Happy holidays to all!

Holiday Festival of Lights. There’s so much holiday magic to discover at the annual Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. From Santa’s Village, Winter Wonderland to different holiday performances, this is the perfect way to ring in the holiday season in Charleston. This event is held almost daily from November 30th through December 23rd. There are also fireworks held on New Year’s Eve. Get details.

Downtown Holiday Parade. Come join the City of Charleston for this fun, high energy parade which will commence on Broad Street at Rutledge Avenue. Participants include musical ensembles, clubs and organizations. There is a tree lighting to follow in Marion Square. The parade is held on Sunday December 4th. Learn more.

27th Annual Christmas Light Parade. The 27th annual Christmas Light Parade will be held on Sunday December 11th from 5:30-8pm. Bring your friends and family to watch brilliantly lit floats and community groups march up West Coleman Boulevard. See the schedule, here.

Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade Tailgate. Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church is hosting a Christmas Parade Tailgate on December 11th. This is a church wide event for friends and family. The tailgate starts at 4pm. Learn more about this event, here.

Charleston Holiday Market. Head to Marion Square for the Holiday Market to enjoy a bounty of fresh local produce, holiday products, live music and activities. The market starts on December 3rd and is held on Saturdays and Sundays through December 17th from 9-3pm.

23rd Annual Holiday Market & Craft Show. This event combines all of the goodies from the traditional Mount Pleasant farmer’s market with added holiday products that would make for perfect Christmas gifts. This event is held on Saturday December 10th from 11-4pm. Learn more.

Holy City Christmas. Beginning on Monday December 5th Holy City Brewing will be hosting an immersive journey through Santa’s house and workshop, where you can meet jolly characters such as North Pole Elves, Mrs. Claus and even Santa himself. Guests will also enjoy complimentary treats and surprises along the way. This event will be held for 19 nights, with the final night being December 23rd. Read more.

The Charleston Christmas Special. Head to the Charleston Music Hall this December for its 27th season of the Charleston Christmas Special. Audiences of all ages will be delighted by the festive music, dancing and skits featuring some of the country’s most talented performers. Shows run on Thursday December 15th through Thursday December 22nd. Find out more information, here.

Vienna Light Orchestra Christmas Concert. With over two thousand flickering candles illuminating the performers, the Vienna Light Orchestra will feature some of the worlds most beloved Christmas favorites, played by world-class musicians this holiday season. Performances start on December 16th and run through December 18th. View show times, here.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This Christmas performance is adapted from Barbara Robinson’s widely acclaimed contemporary Christmas classic, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Head to The Historic Dock Street Theatre to catch the holiday show on December 10th and 17th. Learn more.

The Night Before Christmas. Chamber Music Charleston is celebrating the magical holiday season with a special Christmas Classical Kids Concert on Monday December 19th from 11-1pm. Bring the little ones along to enjoy a variety of holiday music as actors retell classic Christmas tales. Get tickets.
