April Home Sales Surge

◂ Back to Posts

Home sales surged over 50% last month according to the new figures from the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors.  In Charleston County alone, 404 residential properties changed hands – a 62% jump from last April.  One-fourth of those sales were home buyers taking advantage of the expiring tax credit on April 30th.  In fact, during the last 72 hours of the tax credit 207 local buyers purchased a home.

Although 27,000 South Carolinian’s took advantage of the credit, most agents admit that tax-credit related transactions only made up for less than half their business.  But, the credit did inspire a large number of buyers to get out into the market and look around leading to some positive real estate statistics for the area.  Year-to-date, residential real estate sales are about 25% higher than the first four months of 2009.
