19 E. Battery Library

19 East Battery was listed by Charlie Swanson and sold on April 24th.  The Julius M. Visanska House is located on Charleston’s Historic High Battery and offers beautiful panoramic views of the Charleston Harbor, Fort Sumter, Sullivans Island.

This home was built on the site of Historic Fort Mechanic, named for the mechanics of the city who gave their labor to build it in 1794 when a French naval invasion (which never came) was expected.

The present yellow brick mansion was built in 1920 for Julius M. Visanka and was designed by architect Albert Simons. The architecture is based on that of ltalian villas.   When built, it was one of the most expensive houses in Charleston.

This sale was also featured on Christie’s Great Estates website and the Post & Courier.
