Meet Kalyn Smythe

I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that I am passionate about and enjoy going to work every day. I have been working in the real estate business in Charleston for the past nine years. Originally, I started with property management and rentals before moving into residential sales. During my first and second year focusing on sales, I earned the prestigious award of Realtor of Distinction placing me among the top agents in the area.

My love of real estate goes beyond the homes. From meeting new people to building lifelong relationships and seeing how happy my clients are when sitting at the closing table with keys in hand. I’m filled with pride when a client thanks me for being a relentless negotiator and getting the deal done.

My husband and I were married in downtown Charleston at his parents’ beautiful home on Legare Street. We recently purchased and renovated a home on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, and in 2018 we became parents to our precious son, Buist. My favorite activities include boating, spending time on the dock with my family, and enjoying all of the amazing restaurants Charleston has to offer.

What do you think sets you apart as an agent?

There are so many different personalities and characteristics of an agent, and so many to choose from too! I believe that my excitement for real estate, determination for pleasing my clients, and integrity are my most valuable assets that set me apart. I truly love what I do, and that positive energy gives me the ability to get the deal done no matter what challenges may present themselves.

What is your favorite restaurant in Charleston and why?

There are so many spectacular restaurants in Charleston, so it is incredibly difficult to pick just one! However, my favorite restaurant in Charleston is Blossom. I have been going here for many years to celebrate special occasions. Most recently, my bridal luncheon. This restaurant does such a wonderful job of highlighting the Lowcountrys cuisine. The baked oysters, calamari, and shrimp and grits are some of my favorites!

Describe a favorite Saturday afternoon in Charleston

A favorite Saturday in Charleston would be one spent doing what I love most with my family. It would be waking up early to go for coffee and a walk on the beach, dogs in tow. Afterwards, there would be some boating and lunch on Shem Creek. To end the afternoon, I would want to stroll down King Street for some of the finest shopping! I would end the night sitting at a table full of family members at my favorite restaurant, Blossom. Hopefully, there would also be a showing with a client somewhere in between for my favorite Saturday in Charleston!

  • Kalyn was instrumental in our house hunt and interstate move. She is professional yet fun to be with, she knows the area inside and out, and is focused and tireless with her clients. She made us feel like we were the only priority she had when we were in Charleston to find a home. Since we were from out of state, she cleared her schedule to be available to us for several straight days. Best of all, she is a fearless negotiator. She does not back down and she accepts nothing but the best deal for her clients. We highly recommend Kalyn, because she is one of Charleston's finest realtors. - Ken and Lisa Hendershott

  • I highly recommend Kalyn Smythe of William Means Real Estate. She is knowledgeable, professional, personable, and extremely well connected. Kalyn is an expert on the local market and a savvy negotiator. All three real estate transactions I have done with Kalyn exceeded my expectations. She helped me purchase my first home as an out-of-towner moving to Charleston. She has a keen sense of knowing exactly what her clients want and how to find it. When there was nothing on the market that met my criteria, Kalyn found me multiple off-market options, one of which I purchased. She also helped me navigate a multiple offer situation on a home we purchased in Mount Pleasant. Kalyn is an impressive businesswoman and maintains her clients' interests as her top priority. Thank you! - Rachel H

  • I worked with Kalyn Smythe who has a tremendous amount of local knowledge and was extremely helpful finding my new home. In addition, she shared her network of contacts which made the entire process so much easier for me. I highly recommend Kalyn as she is a total professional focused on providing a very high level of service to her clients. - Gary Hyde

  • This was my first time purchasing a home. William Means, specifically Kalyn Smythe, was absolutely amazing to work with. Kalyn is probably one of, if not the most personable, friendly and knowledgeable Realtors® in the greater Charleston area. Between her tenacity and hustling work ethic, she truly leaves no stone unturned from an agent standpoint. She made me feel very comfortable and while her knowledge of the industry is vastly apparent, I never once felt intimidated to ask her one of my silly questions. If you are looking for a firm that is going to go above and beyond for you, look no further than William Means. And should you have the pleasure of working directly with Kalyn, well congratulations, because you just hit the jackpot! - Molly
