Allen Smith will open the 62nd Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens and the Charleston International Antiques Show with a very special garden lecture on Friday, March 20. An award-winning garden designer and host of the public television program, P. Allen Smith's Garden Home, and the syndicated 30-minute show, P. Allen Smith Gardens. Smith has emerged as America's most recognized and respected garden design expert, providing ideas and inspiration through multiple venues. Omar Shrine Temple, 176 Patriot's Point Road, Mt. Pleasant. Tickets are $75, price includes one free daily admission to the Charleston International Antiques Show. Reservations required.

Charleston welcomes back one of its own, Robert Leath, formerly a curator with Historic Charleston Foundation and now Vice President for Collections and Research with Old Salem Museums & Gardens. Among Leath's publications are "Jean Berger's Design Book: Huguenot Tradesmen and the Dissemination of French Baroque Style," an article in American Furniture, which also published Beautiful Specimens, Elegant Patterns: New York Furniture for the Charleston Market, 1815-1840, which Leath co-authored. 40 East Bay Street. Tickets are $65, lunch guests may present their luncheon tickets to purchase one daily admission to the Charleston International Antiques Show for just $5 (a $10 savings). Reservations required.
