◂ Back to Posts

Mount Pleasant is one of the most desired and fastest-growing cities in the Lowcountry. Beautiful neighborhoods, endless amenities and some of the area’s highest-rated public schools converge, making it the perfect place to raise a family. Come with us as we explore the William Means Guide to Mount Pleasant.

Shem Creek – For many years, the area around Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant has been known for its seafood restaurants and its night life, with great views of the creek and the marsh. Now you can also find a series of boardwalks at Shem Creek Park with wonderful views of the creek and the surrounding wetlands.

USS Yorktown/ Patriot’s Point – Patriots Point Development Authority was established in the mid 1970’s to develop a naval and maritime museum on Charleston Harbor with the center piece of the museum being the World War II aircraft carrier, the USS YORKTOWN. Patriots Point has become one of the state’s major tourist attractions with more than 270,000 visitors each year.

Boone Hall Plantation – Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. Today, the plantation spans 738 acres and is one of America’s oldest living, working plantations.

Pitt Street Bridge – This wooden pier in Mt. Pleasant, which extends toward Cove’s Inlet, was built in 1898 as a trolley bridge allowing passengers to and from Sullivan’s Island. The Pitt Street Bridge closed when the Ben Sawyer Bridge opened in 1945. Now, a modern greenway called Pickett Park takes pedestrians and bicyclists across the former bridge site and leads to the remaining part of the old bridge.

Memorial Waterfront Park – Located under the grand entryway to the town, at the base of the Ravenel Bridge, this park has plenty of lawn for enjoying family picnics, a nautical-themed playground modeled after the bridge that provides it shade and the boats that pass by in the harbor, and soft-serve ice cream from the River Watch Cafe.

Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion – Also located at the Waterfront Park is a permanent structure dedicated to showcasing the history, culture and art of sweetgrass basketmaking. Browse the exhibits and visit with local basketmakers. The pavilion is also the site of several events including the annual Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival.

Palmetto Islands County Park – Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park is a nature-oriented, 943-acre park designed for family and group use. The park is built in a tropical setting, with bicycle paths, boardwalks and picnic sites with grills located throughout the park for your enjoyment.
