William Means Guide to Sullivan’s Island

◂ Back to Posts

On Sullivan’s Island you will enjoy soaking up peaceful beach living during the day and vibrant nightlife as the at the bustling Station 22 area for dinner and drinks. Learn more about this tranquil oasis just minutes from historic downtown Charleston.

Peaceful Living. The town has just 1,780 residents with very few short-term rentals and no hotels, motels or bed and breakfast lodging. This laid-back beach neighborhood has maintained the heart of a small town with its uncrowded pristine beaches, unique historic feel, and emphasis on family, nature and community.

Family Friendly. An award-winning elementary school, numerous churches and a relaxing and family friendly beach front make this an idyllic location on South Carolina’s coast.

Dining & Shopping. Middle Street is lined with delicious dining options – everything from the best burgers on the beach to Mexican cuisine and Southern barbecue. Or step out of the sunshine and into one of the beautiful art galleries such as Sandpiper Gallery, a true highlight with its Lowcountry landscape paintings and sculptures.

Sightseeing. The Fort Moultrie National Park is open daily for tours and was home to the first decisive Patriot victory over the British Navy in 1776. You can also take your camera to visit the Sullivan’s Island lighthouse. It was the last major lighthouse built by the federal government and resembles an air traffic control tower more so than a traditional lighthouse.

Homes. Sullivan’s Island is a blend of 1950s bungalows nestled next to new, larger beachfront homes creating an expansive architectural mix. Many houses date from the 1800s, giving it a classic turn-of-the-century feel.
