◂ Back to Posts

For the very first time this summer, readers of Travel + Leisure voted Charleston the No. 1 City in the World. What makes our city so special? We are counting down our favorite things to see, explore and experience in the Holy City.

Tour the city on a horse drawn carriage. What better way to learn about Charleston than with your own personal guide?

Stroll through the Farmer’s Market. Marion Square at the corner of King and Calhoun bustles on Saturday mornings with food and gift vendors.

Watch a sweetgrass basket be weaved. Made from indigenous bulrush, sweetgrass baskets are now among the nation’s most prized cultural souvenirs and can be purchased at the City Market.

Take a boat to Fort Sumter. Operated by the National Park Service, Fort Sumter is a sea fort notable for two battles during the Civil War.

Dine at delectable restaurants. From Husk to SNOB, Charleston’s restaurant scene is ever-expanding and extremely eclectic.

Shop on King Street. It is packed with world-class shops, unique boutiques, bookstores, gift shops and antique stores filled with historic treasures.

Explore a historic home. We have the largest concentration of Pre-Revolutionary homes in the country, representing the finest architectural styles of the past.

Experience art and entertainment.  Charleston Music Hall, Gibbes Museum of Art and the Gaillard Center represent just a fraction of the cultural lifestyle in the area.

Walk the Ravenel Bridge. Spanning from downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant, the Ravenel Bridge is the perfect spot for walkers, runners and bicyclists alike. You don’t want to miss this view!

Go sightseeing at Waterfront Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery or take a stroll along the Battery.
