MSNBC.com recently featured a few rare opportunities to own a South Carolina antebellum plantation on their photoblog. Each plantation featured has not changed hands often, in fact, Medway Plantation has only seen three owners in its 300 year history. As our broker, Helen Geer, says “a plantation is not for everybody. These places are very, very expensive to take care of, and people are cash-strapped right now.”
Medway contains 6,728 acres of land and is staffed by seven full-time employees including one of our own agents, Bob Hortman. Hortman has lived and worked on the property for 34 years and oversees the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the plantation. Upkeep on the property like Medway can run as high as $500,000 a year.
In the video below, Bokara Legendre, describes her life on the plantation and how someone may live on the plantation today.

Dear good people,
I don’t know if you can relate this message, but this is the only way I can think of to send to this gentleman my warmest regards.
I just wish to congratulate the new owner of MEDWAY Plantation, Mr. Gregory Callimanopoulos, for the purchase of this very fine piece of historic property in the heart of the Southern USA
I have worked for the man in the Shipping Industry back in the late 70′s early 80′s and for me, he’s been always the person to look up to.
I wish him All the Best; He diserves only the Best!
Sincerely,
Constantin (Dino) Tsavalas
