In a recent list compiled by Forbes Magazine, the city of Charleston made the cut as one of the 16 best places to retire. Forbes used numerous factors including cost of living, tax burden, weather, crime rates, and what kind of activities are available to residents. Cited specifically for having the lowest tax burden on the list as well as great weather, Charleston’s only draw back according to Forbes was the risk of hurricanes hitting the city.
